1994 was a pivotal year for technology and the Internet, marking the dawn of a new era with significant advancements we take for granted today. Here are some interesting facts to highlight that:

• Catalyst Operated on a Break-Fix Model: In the beginning of Catalyst, if you had a problem arise or something break, you called us and then we came and fixed it. Usually, that resulted in unwanted downtime. In 2018, after being acquired by Century Business Products, Catalyst IT transitioned from break-fix to proactively monitoring all systems—catching potential problems before they become actual problems.
• All Quiet on the Internet Front: In 1994, there were only around 3,000 websites compared to the nearly 2 billion we have today!
• The First Smartphone: While bulky and lacking the sleekness of today’s smartphones, the IBM Simon Personal Communicator was released in 1994. This brick-like device featured a touchscreen and could send and receive faxes, emails, and even boasted a rudimentary calendar and address book—a glimpse into the future of mobile communication.
• Retail Forever Changed: Though online shopping is commonplace today, 1994 also saw the launch of Amazon.com out of Jeff Bezos’ garage.
